New images released as police track diver missing for two years

A new image has been released two years after a diver’s death in the Newcastle area of New South Wales, as police continue to track a second missing man.

At about 9.30am on Monday, May 9, 2022, a male diver was found unresponsive in the water, with 54kg of cocaine nearby.

He could not be revived and was later identified as 31-year-old Brazilian national Bruno Borges Martins.

To date, two men have been charged and remain before the courts.

But police continue to search for a second diver, 32-year-old Jhoni Fernandes Da Silva.

Now, they have released images of a white Mitsubishi Fuso truck they believe could be connected to his disappearance.

The truck, which has the NSW registration DA81PP, was last seen travelling southbound on the M4 at Pennant Hills, Sydney, at about 6.30pm on May 8, 2022.

Detectives are also appealing for any information about a Toyota Townace Van with the NSW registration WNY439, which was seen travelling with the truck.

Commander of State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, said it is about closure for the family and community who have had to live with not knowing for these last two years.

“At the end of the day, it’s about giving answers to the family who wonder where their loved one has gone,” Detective Superintendent Peter Faux said.

“We believe that there are people out there who have information that can provide closure for the family two years after he disappeared.

“I urge anyone who has information to speak to us so that Mr Da Silva’s loved ones don’t have to spend another year wondering what happened to him.”

Anybody with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
