Rio Ferdinand made sure his son Lorenz’s 18th birthday party was a night to remember, throwing him a swanky do on Saturday night.

The TV pundit and former England footballer, 45, decked out a venue to pay tribute to his grown-up son, with step-mum Kate Ferdinand sharing clips of the night on Instagram.

Clips taken by Kate, 33, showed that Lorenz’s name was plastered all over a gazebo, with football dad Rio making sure everyone knew whose birthday it was.

The cocktails flowed and the music played as members of Rio and Lorenz’s family gathered to pay tribute to the young man.

In photos uploaded by Kate, posh sunglasses emblazoned with Lorenz’s initials were seen laid out on a table, while cocktail toppers ensured nobody would forget the occasion.

However, lovely as the cocktails looked, it seemed as though Lorenz’s first legal drink was something else, holding a different glass in his hand while posing for pictures.

Kate described the night as ‘madness’, with more photos showing Rio getting in the party mood and some of Lorenz’s closest friends joining him for the special occasion.

And the birthday boy looked smart, dressing just like his dad as the pair opted for all-black designer outfits – Lorenz completed his look with an oversized black t-shirt.

Rio shared Lorenz with his late wife Rebecca Ellison, with the couple having two more children before Ellison’s death from breast cancer complications in 2015, aged just 34.

He married Lorenz’s step-mum Kate in 2019, with the couple having their first child during Christmas 2020 – they announced the birth of their second child (Rio’s fifth overall) in July last year.

Little Shae, who is not yet a year old, was born shortly after Kate suffered a tragic miscarriage in 2022.

Also in attendance at the party was Lorenz’s sister Tia, 14, who Rio also shared with Ellison, with many other party guests arriving after Kate stopped taking pictures.

During his football career, which began in 1995 and ended in 2015, Rio played for West Ham United, Leeds United, and Manchester United, as well as short spells at AFC Bournemouth and Queen Park Rangers.

As well as winning 14 major honours as a club player, he also represented the England national men’s team 81 times, playing at two World Cups.

Lorenz is trying to follow in his dad’s footsteps and currently plays as a goalkeeper for Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s team, who finished 7th in the southern region of the U18 Premier League earlier this year.
