The Fortune Hotel viewers have threatened to stop watching after the latest episode dropped on a very tense cliff hanger.

For the uninitiated, the ITV gameshow sees 10 couples try to lie, cheat and deceive their way to winning £250,000.

Upon arrival at the luxurious hotel in the Caribbean, each pair is given a suitcase, eight of which are empty, one containing an early check-out card, and one with the jackpot cash prize.

However, following various challenges, the contestants try and swap or steal cases to guess which one has the all-important money, while the lucky pair in hold of it must convince the others that theirs isn’t worth taking.

So far the series, which has been compared to Claudia Winkleman’s The Traitors, has brought us some pretty dramatic exits, but the final scene of Wednesday’s episode begging for more.

After a huge twist introduced by host Stephen Mangan, the couples decided whether to keep or swap their cases with another pair, with some making the tough choice based on deliberations and guesses, and others on a simple ‘rock, paper, scissors’ game.

The final moments saw partners Gary and Lesley (who, unbeknownst to the others, did have the early checkout card) decide to swap their case with Aysha and Samm, who admitted he’d be ‘p**sed’ if handed the doomed case.

However, when it came to their turn to swap, married pair Aysha and Samm had all the power to take out another couple, with the latter admitting there was ‘no room for emotions’ in the all-important decision.

But instead of swapping back with Gary and Lesley, the couple suggested they might hand the case – assuming it to be the unlucky one – to the strongest pairing in the competition, playing a tactical game to win their way forward.

‘Everyone’s here to win, so we can’t go soft,’ Aysha warned in the final moments.

Viewers were fuming at the episode ending without a big reveal, with @_a1ien writing: ‘Naw I’m actually no gonna continue watching #TheFortuneHotel if they don’t show the entire program and cut it off like that wtf.’

Simon_Hadley said: ‘I can’t believe #thefortunehotel has finished like that tonight. How am I going to contain myself for 23 hours???’

‘Omg @ITV, why do you do this to us! I can’t believe im so invested in a briefcase,’ @wiganlass2k15 added.

‘Nerve wracking’ @adderladders added, while @iPhonie said: ‘Aaahhhh loving #TheFortuneHotel! A mix of Traitors, meets Deal or No Deal meets White Lotus But damn the end of that ep has me STRESSED!’

Recalling the tense scenes in the Lady Luck Bar, Tracey went on: ‘It was so intense, my mouth was drier than it’s ever been in my entire life, and if you’d looked down and seen my legs, my legs were shaking!’
