Two men in custody after alleged armed robbery sparked manhunt

Two men are in custody after a hotel was allegedly stormed, a car was stolen and police were led on a major chase across the Gold Coast.

Police said two men were allegedly armed when they broke into Copacabana Hotel in Surfers Paradise about 4.45am today before they took off with keys to a Mercedes.

They allegedly also stole another set of car keys, $3000 and a gold chain before fleeing the scene.

The Mercedes was then spotted hours later and closely followed by a police helicopter.

It was seen weaving in and out of traffic, and allegedly at one point veered on the wrong side of the road, as extensive resources were deployed city-wide in an effort to hunt down the alleged thieves. 

The Mercedes was found and stopped at an address in Belviah about 12.35pm as officers drew their guns and forced the driver out.

He was then quickly arrested and taken into custody.

During their investigations, police discovered a second car, a white BMW, had been allegedly stolen from Runaway Bay. 

The driver, allegedly the second man involved, was also taken into custody.
