Thieves run over man with his own ute at his Perth home

A man has been seriously injured after thieves stole his ute and ran him over in his Port Kennedy driveway in Perth this morning.

Andy McCall, a 59-year-old father, was attempting to stop the three bandits when he was mowed down and left for dead.

“Found a good friend and neighbour Andy face flat in the cul-de-sac,” McCall’s neighbour Alan Atkinson told 9News.

The robbers broke into his Montpellier Mews home just before 6am to steal his keys for this white Isuzu D-Max ute.

“One of the neighbours has come out and tried to get the passenger out but been unsuccessful,” Atkinson said.

The trio sped off, captured by security cameras making their getaway.

McCall was taken to Royal Perth’s trauma unit with fractured ribs, a possible spine fracture, and fluid on his lungs.

“I’m disgusted by that action,” Police Commissioner Col Blanch said.

“I know we’ve got a person, a homeowner, in hospital dealing with some serious injuries because of actions of absolute criminals.”

The violent robbery is another blow for McCall who lost his wife to cancer last year.

And not long before that, the family home was also broken into.

McCall’s distraught daughter today was consoled by neighbours as the 59-year-old faces at least a week in hospital.

“He’s a great guy, would do anything for you,” Atkinson said.

This afternoon the ute was found abandoned on a bush track off Chalk Hill Road in Medina but the three thugs remain on the run.
