The cast for season six of the Circle has been unveiled – with one huge twist that no one saw coming.

The first batch of episodes of the hit ‘social media competition’ will be premiering on Netflix on April 17, with the rest of the series rolling out on a weekly basis until the finale on May 8.

Although the alerts will be coming from a ‘new city’, we’re still expecting some epic Circle chats as contestants battle to be the most popular person and take home the $100,000 prize.

There is another huge change from previous seasons as the cast will feature the ultimate catfish in the form of an AI bot, playing as ‘Max’.

Viewers were a little divided over the news and flocked to social media to discuss how ‘Max’ would possibly fit into a game where personality is the most important factor.

Reddit user Aulbayne wrote: ‘The A.I. bot catfishing as “Max” will definitely be interesting to watch, and does feel like a natural twist considering the nature of this show! Only 2 weeks till the new season, exciting! :).’

Over on Twitter, Jamiee Rindy queried: ‘Adding an AI Bot is HILARIOUS, but my question is… Will they update the game format to incentivize more catfishing and/or catfish catching?? @CircleNetflix #TheCircle.’

Wil Justice posted: ‘So far, for the pre-season, I’m rooting for Quori (QT), Caress, and Jordan. I’m not so sure about this AI Robot thing…’

NataszaB joked: ‘The way ai is even coming for reality TV contestants jobs [sic].’

As Mike G posted: ‘The Circle having an AI robot compete is the best marketing they could have ever done #TheCircle.’

While others predicted that the AI robot would somehow win the entire competition…

We wouldn’t put it past Max…

The bot will be going up against a string of new faces, including Steffi, Quori-Tyler, Myles, Lauren, Jordan, Kyle, Autumn and Cassie.

As ever, there are some catfishes in the mix as Brandon is joining the game as ‘Olivia’, while Caress will be playing as ‘Paul’.

Michelle Buteau is returning to host the proceedings, and teased some drama ahead in a very cryptic trailer.

‘The ultimate social media challenge has returned,’ she began. ‘Players are hitting the Circle either as themselves or as a catfish – to connect, chat, strategize, plot and flirt their way to the top of this ruthless game of popularity, and win $100,000.

‘While you don’t need to be the smartest, this season we’re adding a bit more intelligence to the chat.

‘For the first time ever, an AI bot is playing the game as the ultimate catfish. Buckle up baby.’

The official synopsis reads: ‘New city. New twists. Same game. Catfish, connections and chaos await as new influencers enter the chat and compete for a huge cash prize.’

The Circle season six premieres on Netflix on April 17.
