A world-famous TV show is about to look very different as one of its biggest stars is leaving after seven seasons.

Musician Katy Perry joined American Idol in 2018 and has been a staple on the show since.

Her TV career has been a bit of a rollercoaster, as she faced criticism online for being ‘rude’ to contestants, while others defended her approach as a judge.

Now the Part Of Me star, who shares a daughter with fiancée Orlando Bloom, has indicated she is ready to leave the series behind.

She spoke to Jimmy Kimmel on his Monday night talk show, saying American Idol had ‘connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.’

While confirming she was leaving the show, she didn’t completely close the door, saying she could come back ‘one day … if they have me.’

Katy’s decision comes after she finished a two-year music residency in Las Vegas, where she performed some of her mega hits to different audiences every night, doing 80 shows in total.

Her daughter, Daisy Bloom, is now aged three, and fans have been speculating the I Kissed A Girl singer could be preparing to return to the road with new music.

She last released an LP, Smile, in 2020, with her most recent single being 2021’a Cry About It Later.

She has not been on tour since 2018’s Witness Tour – but in December an insider tipped that she was preparing for a massive comeback.

The source said: ‘Katy has been working on her most personal album ever for much of the past two years.

‘She has been doing it on her own terms and it is quite different from anything she has released before.’

They added to The Sun: ‘The demand is there because she has so many hits, so taking her show on the road is bound to be a big draw.’

The hope is that she can head out towards the end of 2024, but it is still being worked out.’

Last year’s season of American Idol saw backlash for Katy on several occasions, including when she told Nutsa Buzaladze that she should ‘have more grace’ after drama with a fellow singing hopeful.

She was later booed for telling the contestant to tone down her next performance, with the audience unimpressed with her criticism.
