British headteacher dies in accident during trip to France

A ‘brilliant’ head teacher has died while on a trip to France.

Simon Gibbs, from Witham, died over the weekend while with on holiday with friends.

It is believed he was killed following an accident on Saturday evening.

New Rickstones Academy told parents and carers of the head teacher’s death.

Johanna Thompson, regional education director for the Academies Enterprise Trust, described Mr Gibbs as a ‘much-loved colleague and a brilliant head teacher’.

‘We will miss him enormously,’ Ms Thompson wrote.

‘He will be remembered for his integrity and passion for teaching, as well as his dedication to the community at New Rickstones.’

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in France, and our staff are in contact with the local authorities.’
