A paedophile who was jailed for murdering an eight-year-old girl has been stabbed in prison.

Roy Whiting was sentenced to life in prison after murdering Sarah Payne in 2000.

He was stabbed in maximum-security HMP Wakefield at the weekend, The Mirror reports, and prison guards raced to treat him following the assault.

A source told The Mirror: ‘Whiting is hated in prison. He was stabbed and was covered in blood. They were trying to kill him.’

Whiting has been attacked multiple times behind bars since he was jailed in 2002.

In 2002 murderer Rickie Tregaskis slashed Whiting’s face with a razor blade, leaving Whiting with a 6in scar on his right cheek.

Nine years later double killer Gary Vinter, 53, sneaked into Whiting’s jail cell and attacked him with a sharpened plastic toilet brush handle – and the tip of his makeshift weapon left a piece of plastic in Whiting’s eye socket.

He later told a court he stabbed the notorious child killer in both eyes because he was a ‘dirty little nonce’.
