Police launch probe after claims pupils allegedly shared child abuse images on Snapchat at Brune Park School in Gosport, Hampshire
School pupils allegedly shared sex abuse images of babies and young children on Snapchat.
Brune Park School in Gosport, Hampshire, wrote a letter to parents last Thursday claiming the content was shared to the social media platform.
The school became aware after holding events to encourage safer internet use.
Snapchat said the reports are ‘horrific’ and is working with Hampshire Constabulary.
A police spokesperson said: ‘We have been made aware of a concerning social media group being accessed by school children in the Gosport area.
‘This is a serious incident and investigating officers will be working closely with local schools to follow up all lines of enquiry and ensure the ongoing safety of pupils.’
A spokesperson on behalf of the Gosport and Fareham Trust, which runs the school, said: ‘We were made aware of concerning content being shared on social media.
‘We took the decision to proactively contact our families to make them aware of what was being shared. We are unable to share further information as this is a police investigation.’

The school, which has about 1,300 pupils aged between 11 and 16, told parents it had raised concerns with the police following the alleged discovery.
It also urged parents to check their children’s devices.
A Snapchat spokesperson said abuse has ‘no place on Snapchat’.
