King Charles will overcome boredom by painting and keeping active, his close friends have claimed.

Buckingham Palace revealed to the nation that the monarch, 75, was suffering from an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this month.

He started treatment immediately and has since been seen looking in good spirits despite not partaking in any official public duties.

Friends claim that boredom will be one of the biggest hurdles that the king will face as he undergoes treatment.

They said he would likely pass the time engaging in his two favourite hobbies – walking and water painting.

A friend told the Mail Online: ‘Boredom will be one of the hardest things for him.’

Another said the king will also listen to the music of the late Canadian singer Leonard Cohen – specifically the poetic song Take This Waltz, which he previously described as ‘very moving’.

The king will also keep up with his weekly duties with the ‘red boxes’ of paperwork.

The palace has not said what type of cancer the king is suffering from but it was discovered during an unrelated medical examination.

Prince William and other members of the royal family are taking on the king’s public duties for now.

The Prince of Wales’ wife Kate also recently underwent abdominal surgery and is now recovering.

Prince Harry flew in from his home in America following the king’s cancer announcement.

However, it is understood he spent less than an hour with his father and spent the night in a hotel before jetting back to the United States.

One royal expert told The Sun that it was likely a short meeting in order to keep the king’s stress levels down – following Harry’s departure from the direct duties of the family.

Writer and broadcaster Robert Jobson said: ‘You don’t want his blood pressure going up. The king’s not very well, whatever type of cancer it is, he’s undergoing treatment.

‘The best thing for him is calm. After the initial kiss and hug, love you dad, hope you get better soon, what issues are going to get raised? Things that will get your blood pressure rising.’

Prince William appeared at an air ambulance charity gala last week where he passed on words of thanks from both the king and the Princess of Wales for the public support shown by many well-wishers.

The king was first seen in public a day after his first treatment on Tuesday as he left Clarence House.

He has since been resting at his Norfolk estate where he has been seen by well-wishers.

Laura Barron of Sunbury, Surrey, who was with her son Hugo, eight, and eight-month-old daughter Beth was in the area when the king made the appearance.

She told MailOnline: ‘We are on holiday in the area, so we thought we would come to see the King.

‘He was walking along normally, and he really looked better than I thought he would. We didn’t get very close, but he certainly looks smart and able to walk confidently.’
