Greens MP in hospital after serious car crash in Brisbane

A Queensland Greens MP has been injured in a serious car accident in inner-city Brisbane.

Main Street in Kangaroo Point was closed for hours after Dr Amy MacMahon’s car and another vehicle collided about 6.30pm on Monday.

The Member for South Brisbane was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition but federal Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather said the crash was “serious”.

“Amy is conscious and her injuries are non life threatening,” he said, on behalf of the party.

“She is recovering in hospital.

“Thank you to first responders and amazing health care workers that have been looking after her.”

Police said the forensic crash unit was investigating after a Hyundia i30 travelling south on Main Street collided with a Toyota Prius turning right from Baines Road.

A spokesperson said the driver of the Hyundai was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while a third car suffered minor damage.

MacMahon beat former Queensland deputy premier Jackie Trad to claim her inner-city seat at the 2020 election.

She’s been a vocal opponent of the under-fire $2.7 billion Gabba redevelopment plan as part of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
