Selma Blair has sparked a wave of criticism after appearing to post an anti-Islam comment on Instagram, before it was later deleted.

The Cruel Intentions actress, 51, was met with fury from fans on social media after sharing her support for a post discussing the ongoing Israel – Hamas war, in the wake of the October 7 attack.

According to NBC News, the comment – which has since been removed – was shared under a video uploaded by Abraham Hamra, who spoke out against two US representatives after they voted against a measure preventing those who took part in the attack to immigrate to America.

In the comments below, Blair’s verified account replied: ’Thank you very much. Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds.

‘They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.’

Debra Messing and Michael Rapaport are also among the stars who shared supportive messages under the post, and their replies are still visible.

The response in question was shared around a week ago, but has now gained attention across social media, with many calling Blair out.

Although she has disabled comments on most Instagram posts – and appears to have deleted her Twitter account amid the controversy – fans have voiced their fury under an upload she shared in November, which still has comments enabled.

‘So brave of you to be spewing hate speech all over the internet and not think of the consequences of that,’ a follower fumed below. ‘It’s so disappointing Selma.

‘We thought your advocacy included standing against racism, hate speech toward migrants and Islamophobia. Apparently not. Sending you love and peace as that is what my faith has taught me. Your heart truly needs it.’

‘I can’t believe you actually wrote such a racist hateful thing. So disappointing to see your actual words,’ another agreed. ‘Wow. 

‘Never thought you’d be among those on the religious persecution bandwagon.’

‘Islam destroys Muslim countries?? What are you talking about?,’ an Instagram fan questioned.

‘Your Islamaphobic and anti Muslim hate is awful and horrific to see. Do better [sic],’ a commenter shared.

A Twitter user wrote: ‘Does anyone know why #SelmaBlair deleted this comment. Well know we have all seen it and know you are not only rascist but Islamophobic. Spread the word [sic].’

‘I know this isn’t season 1 of earth, so maybe I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am, but the fact that Selma Blair had that level of bigotry just ready to post casually like that publicly is so incredibly disturbing,’ one said. 

As a poster added: ‘Unfollowed #SelmaBlair. So disappointed and disgusted.’

Blair has yet to speak out publicly over the backlash.
